Rental Preparedness

My roommates Chris and Jeff went on a road trip to California during the past couple of days. Jeff brought home many pictures, but the one I found the most interesting was the one he took of something in the trunk of their rental car. Here it is:

It's a picture of the contraption that you can use to get out of the trunk in the all-to-common case of being trapped in there. Instead of instructions, it just has that picture. So I guess if you are ever trapped in the trunk of your rental car, the instructions would be this:

1. Pop the trunk.
2. FLEE FOR LIFE!!!

Must be a Ford. My for has the exact same handle, and it's attached to the trunk latch mechanism and dangles in the air a bit above eye level every time I open the trunk.

And I have a little chuckle every time because of the silliness of the fleeing man, the fact that he's approximately 9 feet tall, and can jump apparently jump the length of a car from a prone position inside a trunk.

The emergency trunk release isn't just for rental cars, it is standard equipment on almost every new car built the last few years.
